talked for a while about birth stories, and I shared what my birth plans were and who my midwife was. My first child was a home-birth and I didn’t have any plans of doing anything different!
Fast forward to me going into labor, and after my water had broke I felt I just couldn’t take the pain and wanted to go to the hospital. By the time I had gotten to the hospital, there wasn’t time for pain meds, and thirty minutes later, it was time to push…
I felt defeated and disappointed in myself for not just staying home when it got tough. By the time I was ready to go back to the gym and saw Katrina, I told her what had happened. Of course she said, “if I was your midwife I wouldn’t have let you leave!” I told myself the next time I get pregnant she would be my midwife! She was tough-love and that’s the support I needed.
When I got pregnant with my third, my husband and I had moved to Cartersville so we no longer went to the same gym. I knew I wanted to get in touch with Katrina but I lost contact with her. Thankfully my mother goes there, so I asked her to ask around for Katrina’s number or even just her last name! Lol Finally, we discovered her last name and was able to look up her website and get her email. I was so excited I knew she was going to be the perfect midwife! I wanted a traditional midwife with a holistic approach instead of medicine. Katrina is all of that and so much more! She’s as natural as it gets, and a body builder/nutritionist. Checking all the boxes!
At our first visit we hit it off immediately. Very easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable to discuss whatever I felt she needed to know to get to know me better. With each visit she started to feel more like a friend. Making my baby and I feel so important, and reassuring that I am capable of delivering this sweet baby boy.
Finally the day had come where I went into labor. On Saturday, August 29th 2026 around 12:30am I started getting contractions. They were pretty far apart and not strong yet, but it was definitely happening! After having contractions for an hour I called Katrina to let her know, and went back to sleep. I woke up around 7:30am and contractions were still about the same. About 10-15 minutes apart and still not super strong, but enough to wince at the pain. Of course this being my 3rd kid my mother races over thinking I’ll be pushing in an hour or so.. I could tell that this was going to be slow progress and at first felt discouraged. Katrina again reassured me “this is textbook labor and exactly what you want! Slow progression, so you can rest in between contractions and save your energy for when it gets really intense.” I felt so much better after she told me that! Gave me the confidence I needed to just relax and let the waves come. Around 12pm Katrina had recommended I do an extreme side lay, and the first contraction after doing that was intense enough to give me the shakes… so she said, “okay no time to change, heading straight to you.” She arrives at 1:20 and each contraction is getting stronger and stronger. Around 3pm I nervously and hopefully asked if she thought I could have this baby by 5-6pm, and she said, casually, “yeah probably”. Again giving me hope, but also I just felt in my body that I was going to deliver around then. The time is now five-ish and it’s time to push! At the time I was sitting on a birth stool and laying back in my husband’s arms. I knew I needed to get to my hands and knees, but I just couldn’t get there! The contractions were coming back to back and so intense I couldn’t make my body move. My mother then says, “she gave birth on her knees last time”. So I then said, with little breath, “yes knees!”. My husband, Katrina, and Kloee helped me to my hands and knees and almost immediately I began to push. Moving to that position; I knew this was the finale! With all my might, I push with each contraction, and all I could do was cry and thank God for getting me here. Finally, my baby and I were at the finish line; both working so hard to get there. After I push his head out I hear Katrina say, “okay don’t push yet, don’t push yet. Get your foot up.” And she moved my leg to where I was on one knee and the other foot on the floor in like a squat position. What I did not know at the time, was that she was unwrapping the cord from his neck when she had asked me to do that. After she had gotten the cord off his neck safely, I pushed the rest of his body out. When he came out his body was limp from being stunned on the way out. I, for some reason, was not worried. I just knew that he was okay; God had a hand on Katrina, and she knew exactly what to do, and she did it very well! She then began to suck the mucus out of his nose and mouth with her mouth (Amazing)! Then blew a little air into him, and just like that I hear my sweet baby’s cry for the first time. The most beautiful experience I could do it all over again!!
Thank you God for your hand of protection over all of us during that time. Thank you to my amazing husband, for once again, being my ultimate support for our third birth together. Thank you thank you Katrina Goodman for doing what you do… being the best midwife and helping make the whole process go smoothly. Thank you Kloee for being an outstanding doula and reading my body language and knowing what was needed. I understand every labor and birth is different and typically doesn’t go as planned, or expected… but even with unexpected complications, Katrina handled it like a true boss!! She was made for this job, if you can even call it that for her.
